remote reservoir

Home made billet torque arm

Curing the
ubiquitous 'O' ring problem that all V.Maxii suffer from.......or will
eventually

The anti "pop"
bracket in place before tidying it up for final assembly

After 300 (hard) miles it was
checked and everything is still in place. As a point of note, the O ring I
used was the slightly thicker than original orange one supplied with the new oil delivery pipes,
I decided not to use the Kawasaki one for reasons too long to go into here, but suffice to say I came to the conclusion that the
Yamaha supplied ring would be best.
The oil pressure is now running at approx 10psi for every 1000rpm, with a tick-over pressure of 10 - 12 psi when hot, and looking at the joint where the offending pipe goes into the crankcase there's no evidence of any oil seepage from there at all. This is probably the easiest and most effective way of curing the O ring problem.
NOTE*
During the
300 mile test period Putoline 20/50 oil was used. Considering that this
was over the winter months when the oil would be a lot thicker on start up and
the O ring has never popped out, I think it can probably be assumed that it's
now pretty well cured. I'm now going to run the V-Max on Silkolene 15/50
oil permanently, it's my personal view that 10/40 is too thin for such an old
design of engine that has greater bearing tolerances than modern motors. My 5000
mile '97 Max certainly runs quieter on the slightly heavier oil.
